1:35 Fern No.2

Fern No.2 in 1:35 scale

The accessory 1:35 Fern No.2 is the second numbered variant of the RT-Diorama fern, a low-growing plant. It is not a model of a vehicle or a figure but a plant with which the undergrowth of a diorama is fitted out. Together with variant No.1 it can be built into clumps that do not look like the repetition of one shape.

Ferns by water, stones and ruins

A fern holds damp and shade, and so it grows exactly where modelers build their most rewarding scenes: on the banks of streams, among stones, in the ruins of walls and on the overgrown edges of roads. An overgrown ruin is a classic subject, and it is the fern that gives it what sets an abandoned place apart from a newly built one - greenery that has forced its way in where nobody wanted it. It serves just as well at an overgrown trench, at an abandoned vehicle or at the edge of a field track that has not been driven on for a long time.

Tips for placing it in the scene

• Plant the ferns in joints, at the feet of walls and among stones, not in the middle of an open area.
• Near water the growth is denser; let it thin out away from the bank.
• Combine both variants of the range; a natural clump is never uniform.
• Choose the way of fixing them according to the groundwork of the scene and the make of the parts.

Who the accessory is for

• Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale.
