A plastic kit of the Ford GPA in 1:35 scale from Tamiya: the American amphibious military vehicle of the Second World War with a detailed engine and a driver figure.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Ford GPA amphibious vehicle of the Second World War in 1:35 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The set faithfully captures the characteristic boat-shaped hull, and the engine is built up from several parts and visible under an openable hood. Photo-etched parts for the fine elements and a driver figure in period uniform are included as well.
The Ford GPA was an amphibious vehicle with all-wheel drive, derived from the legendary Jeep (GPW). It was created to a US Army order in 1942; the new boat-shaped hull made it possible to swim, and a propeller at the rear provided the drive in the water. The vehicle was used in landing operations including the campaign in North Africa and operations in Western Europe. Production was fairly short, yet over 12000 were built.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement. It is advisable to assemble and paint the chassis and the engine bay first and only then to close the hull, because once it is glued you will no longer reach the inner parts. Lay a primer as an undercoat and apply the shades with an airbrush. Build the weathering up with washes and pigments for mud and dust effects; with an amphibian it also pays to suggest the waterline and deposits on the lower part of the hull after a swim.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
