The real subject

The Renault UE was a French light tracked carrier of the 1930s, a structurally very low two-man vehicle intended to tow a trailer and to carry supplies up to the troops. It was built in large numbers and after 1940 appeared in a range of conversions as well. The running gear consisted of small bogies with short, finely linked tracks that are typical of the vehicle's silhouette, which is exactly why they are worth attention on a model.

Use and tips

• Before fitting, check that the pitch and the width of the track match the running gear of your kit
• Assemble and clean up the running gear before fitting the track, as afterwards you cannot reach the wheels
• Paint the tracks separately from the hull and fit them only after the base coat
• Work out the track sag between the return rollers from references; on small vehicles it tends to be only slight
• Finally add worn metal shine on the track face and fine dust or mud at the sides
