Trumpeter GAZ-66 with the ZU-23-2 twin anti-aircraft cannon in 1:35 scale combines the Soviet off-road truck with a twin-barrel 23 mm cannon on the bed.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter captures the Soviet light off-road truck GAZ-66 carrying the ZU-23-2 twin anti-aircraft cannon on its bed. The box holds parts for building both the vehicle and the gun itself, clear parts for the cab and a decal sheet. It is a combination of a utility truck and a weapon, popular for dioramas and display models alike.
The GAZ-66 was a two-ton off-road truck with 4x4 drive and a cab over the engine, one of the most widely used light trucks of the Soviet army. The ZU-23-2 twin cannon is a towed anti-aircraft weapon with two 23 mm barrels, intended against low-flying targets as well as ground targets. Combined with the bed of the vehicle it made an improvised mobile firing platform of the kind that can be met in a number of conflicts.
We suggest starting with the chassis, the drivetrain and the cab interior, which are harder to reach once the bodywork is closed. The cannon and its mount contain small parts; glue them with liquid cement for plastic. The base is a matte khaki or olive, which takes well to an airbrush. Bring out the panels and rivets with a dark wash, and finish the mud and dust effects on the running gear and the bed with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
