About product

The real subject

The 75 mm KwK 40 gun was the main armament of the German medium tank Pz.Kpfw.IV from the Ausf.F2 version onward and early machines of the Ausf.G version carried it as well. The designation L/43 gives the length of the barrel in multiples of the caliber, that is, forty-three calibers; at a caliber of 75 mm that corresponds to roughly 3.2 meters. The longer barrel gave the shell a higher muzzle velocity and with it a flatter trajectory, which was a fundamental difference against the earlier short guns. Later machines of the same version received a longer version still, 48 calibers long. At the end of the barrel there is a muzzle brake with a single baffle: it diverts part of the pressure gases to the sides and reduces the recoil.

What the set contains

A replacement barrel for a model in 1:35 scale, made by turning. A turned part is precisely round, has no lengthwise joint left by gluing two halves together and already has the muzzle bored through, so drilling and the laborious sanding of a seam both fall away. The extent of the set, the way it is fixed into the gun mantlet and the kits the barrel is cut for are given in the maker's instructions.

  • 1:35 scale, a 75 mm KwK 40 gun barrel 43 calibers long
  • a single-baffle muzzle brake
  • for the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.G in the early version
  • a turned part with no lengthwise joint, the muzzle is bored through
  • the fixing and the intended kit are given in the maker's instructions

Building and painting tips

Cut the barrel off the kit part square and level the cut face, so that the replacement sits on the axis. Try the assembly dry and check the axis from above and from the front, as a crooked barrel shows at first glance on a finished model. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount. Degrease the part before painting and apply a thin coat of primer, otherwise the paint will not hold and will rub off when the model is handled.

Terms of supply

The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The length of the barrel in multiples of the caliber. Forty-three calibers at a caliber of 75 mm corresponds to roughly 3.2 meters on the real weapon. It is not a statement of the caliber.

A turned part is precisely round, has no lengthwise joint from two halves and already has the muzzle bored through. Drilling and sanding a seam both fall away.

It is made for a model of the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.G in the early version in 1:35 scale. The particular kit and the way it is fixed are given in the maker's instructions.

Degrease the part, apply a thin coat of primer and only then the paint. Without a primer the paint rubs off when the model is handled.
