The M110A2G self-propelled howitzer of the German army in 1:35 scale from the brand AFV Club is an injection-molded kit of a heavy artillery piece of 203 mm caliber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The eight-inch self-propelled howitzer was among the heaviest artillery pieces the Western armies put into firing positions in the time of the Cold War. The injection-molded kit from the brand AFV Club captures the A2 execution in the equipment of the German army, that is with the lengthened barrel and the double-baffle muzzle brake.
The vehicle stands on a tracked chassis shared with other machines of the same family and carries an open mount without any armored cover at all. The crew works under the open sky, only a few rounds are carried on the hull and the rest was brought up by an accompanying tracked carrier, because ammunition of 203 mm caliber is hard to handle by hand. The rear spade is set into the ground before firing and transfers the recoil into it. The Bundeswehr operated these howitzers in heavy artillery battalions until the 1990s, when newer hardware replaced them.
It is sensible to finish the running gear and the mount before the hull is closed. The open construction offers plenty of places for a deposit of dust and dried mud, mainly around the spade and in the tracks. The tools and the stowed rounds gain in credibility with dark washes and dry rubbing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.
