A plastic kit of the German Geschützwagen Tiger for the 17 cm K72 (Trumpeter) in 1:35 scale: a massive German self-propelled gun on a chassis derived from the Tiger.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a sizeable self-propelled gun in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The real subject is a German project for a heavy gun on a chassis derived from the Tiger, carrying a long-range cannon of 17 cm caliber (the 17 cm Kanone 72). The package holds parts in gray plastic, photo-etched sheet, vinyl tracks and metal springs. Because of its size and the number of parts, it is a kit rather for more experienced modelers.
The concept came about at the Krupp works as a heavy gun carrier using the drivetrain, road wheels and tracks of the Tiger. The machine, with a crew of around eight men, weighed roughly 60 tons and was protected by only thin armor, because it was to act from a distance as artillery support and counter-battery fire. The cannon of 17 cm caliber reached an exceptional range for its day. By the end of the war the project remained at the stage of a partly built prototype, which the Allies found in 1945 near Paderborn.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the lower tub, and only then close the hull up. Seat the vinyl tracks with a natural sag around the rollers. We recommend a primer, an airbrush and thin cement for plastic; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and build the metal springs in according to the instructions. Bring the large area of armor to life with tonal transitions, washes into the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects; the long barrel deserves careful centering and gentle emphasis of its detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
