Injection-molded plastic kit of the German Pz.Kpfw IV Ausf.F chassis (Fahrgestell) in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. A turretless chassis with a crane, an ammunition carrier.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of the German Panzer IV tank chassis in the Ausf.F version (Fahrgestell means chassis in German) in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model is NOT a conventional tank with a turret; it captures the hull and the running gear alone, supplemented with a rotating crane and a bin for heavy ammunition. According to the manufacturer the box contains richly broken-down sprues, photo-etched parts and several large-caliber rounds. The exact numbers of parts differ between releases.
During the Second World War the Panzer IV tank chassis served as the basis for a whole range of derived vehicles. In this case it is an ammunition carrier on the Panzer IV chassis, which supplied the giant German Karl-Gerät siege mortars of 600 mm caliber. The vehicles were fitted with a rotating crane that lifted the exceptionally heavy rounds and loaded them into the mortar. Only a small number of Ausf.D to Ausf.F chassis were converted, so it is a rare and unusual subject.
First assemble the running gear, the wheels and the link tracks carefully, because on this richly broken-down kit the lower hull is the key. Dry-fit the crane and the ammunition bin and attach them only after painting, so that the detail stays readable. Apply primer and then the finish; depending on the period, choose Panzergrau gray or Dunkelgelb yellow. Pick out the rounds and the crane in contrast. Underline the panel lines with a wash and dust the lower areas and the running gear with dust and mud pigments. The large turretless space positively invites a diorama with a crew loading ammunition.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
