A front radiator grille in the form designated number 5, intended for the kit of the legendary American GMC CCKW truck from Hobby Boss in 1:35 scale. The accessory is installed in place of the part from the box and changes only the front of the vehicle.
Production of the trucks ran in several plants at once during the war and the suppliers changed over the years. The front grilles therefore came about in several forms, which differ from one another in the spacing and the number of pressings, in the framing and in the way they are attached. In period photographs that difference is visible even from a distance and tends to be a clue as to when and where a particular vehicle was built. Modelers who reconstruct a certain unit or period therefore choose the grille deliberately.
Before gluing, offer the part up to the model and check whether the width matches the opening in the radiator shell; an abrasive sponge will even out small play. Apply the paint in a thin coat so that the pressings stay sharp, and then go lightly over the grille with a dry brush, which will draw the edges out. A dark base behind the grille helps: it creates an impression of depth and the eye does not register that there is no radiator behind it. Leave the headlights and the bumper around it for last, so that you have free access to all the surfaces while seating it.
