An add-on set for kits of the American Harley-Davidson WLA military motorcycle in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the motorcycle but a set of replacement parts which replaces the wheels and the engine cylinders with a more accurate version. The maker is Art Scale. On a motorcycle the wheels and the engine are among the most visible places. The tread pattern, the spokes and the cooling fins of the cylinders are details that can only be captured to a limited degree in a production mold, because the part has to be split into two halves. Separately made parts get around this problem, so a wheel has a continuous tread all the way around and the cylinders stay finned on every side. On a small model, where everything is examined from close up, the difference tells at once.
Cut the original parts off the kit and level the mating surfaces so that the new part seats exactly on the center line. Separate the new parts carefully, wash them and degrease them, otherwise the primer will not hold. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) suits the joint to plastic, ideally after a dry test fit. A wheel is rewarding to paint separately from the frame: darken the rubber and dust it lightly, and polish the metal parts sparingly. The cylinders come out with a dark wash and a light dry brush along the edges of the fins.
