The Mercedes-Benz L1500A was a German light cross-country car with all-wheel drive, which came about as part of an effort to standardize the Wehrmacht vehicle fleet. In the Kfz. 70 version it served as a personnel car, that is for carrying gun crews, for towing light weapons and for staff and liaison duties. It was used from the prewar years right through the war, and in period photographs we usually see it loaded with kit, crates and the crew's personal baggage.
An open vehicle will take more detail than a closed body, but it forgives fewer mistakes at the same time. It pays to work with color contrast, that is to separate the military shade of the vehicle from the earthy and textile tones of the load, and only then to pull the whole together. A dark wash will bring out the straps, the buckles and the gaps, a dry brush will pick out the edges, and discreet dust on the floor and the lower surfaces will give the vehicle the look of real use.
