One piece of a turned metal barrel of the 14.5 mm heavy machine gun in the version for armored vehicles. It was used on the BTR-60PB, BTR-70 and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers and on the BRDM-2 reconnaissance vehicle. It is not a model of a vehicle or a turret, but a replacement for one particular, and highly visible, part.
The KPVT is the vehicle version of the 14.5 mm heavy machine gun, used in the small turrets of armored personnel carriers and reconnaissance vehicles. Its characteristic feature is a long barrel in a drilled cooling jacket, which on these vehicles projects far ahead of the outline of the turret. The weapon appears on a great many types of vehicle, so the set has uses across kits in 1:35 scale.
The drilled jacket and the muzzle are the two details for which this swap is made. A plastic barrel usually has the holes only suggested and the muzzle blanked off, whereas a metal one has them made. The procedure is simple: cut the plastic barrel off at the front of the turret, drill the hole exactly on the center of the pin and glue the part in with super glue. On vehicles it is a good idea to fit the barrel only after the main painting and weathering of the hull, so that pigments and washes do not get into the drilled jacket. When cleaning the model, avoid pressure from above above all; the weapon sits in a small turret and the joint has a short mating surface. Degrease the metal and use a primer for metal, or leave the surface in a metal shade and only weather it lightly.
