An accessory to a model of the German Krupp Protze light off-road truck in 1:35 scale. It is aimed at the engine bay, that is at the part that stays empty in the basic kit as soon as the hood is lifted.
The vehicle with a drawn-out sloping front, nicknamed Protze after the artillery limber, served the Wehrmacht from the middle of the 1930s. It carried the crews of anti-tank guns, towed light guns, delivered supplies and ran as a signals vehicle too. It was powered by an air-cooled flat engine mounted at the front under a low hood, which gave the vehicle an unmistakable silhouette with a short snout. In the fighting of the first years of the war it was everywhere; later standardized types pushed it out.
An engine bay makes sense to build only when it is going to be seen. Decide in advance whether you will open the side covers, the whole hood, or stand the vehicle in a repair scene with the panels set aside. Prepare photographs of the real unit, so that you know where the cables and hoses run; these can be suggested with thin wire. Paint the engine separately outside the vehicle, tell the shades of the block and of the accessories apart and give depth with a dark deposit into the gaps completed by fine traces of oil.
