1:35 Lvkv 9040C Anti-Air Vehicle

The real subject

The Lvkv 9040 is the anti-aircraft version of the Swedish tracked combat vehicle known in Sweden under the designation Stridsfordon 90 and abroad as the CV90. The family was created in the 1980s and from the 1990s onward has formed the backbone of Swedish mechanized units. The anti-aircraft version kept the hull and the tracked running gear but received a turret with a 40 mm automatic cannon that can be raised to a high elevation, and a fire control system adapted to firing at air targets. The letter C in the designation distinguishes a later form within the same series.

What makes the vehicle interesting as a model

The silhouette of the vehicle is angular and the surfaces are large and uninterrupted, so the model takes careful painting and shadow work well. The long cannon barrel, the substantial turret and the tracked running gear with its road wheels suspended under the side skirt are characteristic. In the field, Swedish vehicles wear a multi-tone camouflage made up of sharply bounded areas, which is a rewarding subject for masking tape.

Building and painting tips

Finish the running gear and the tracks before you seat the turret on the hull, because once the turret is on it is hard to reach the underside of the vehicle. Spray the sharply bounded camouflage through cut masks or over tape, not freehand, otherwise the transitions will not come out. Keep the dust and mud low down; on a tracked vehicle it ends roughly at the upper edge of the side skirt. Check the cannon barrel against the light after gluing it, so that it is not twisted to one side.

Who the model is for

For builders of contemporary tracked vehicles in 1:35 scale and for collectors of Nordic army vehicles. Paints, glue and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
