An extensive injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale, which combines the eight-wheel M1013 heavy tractor and the M2042A1 launch semitrailer intended for it. The assembled combination is long and impressive, but the build is longer and more demanding than with an ordinary armored vehicle, as you work with the chassis of the tractor, with its drivetrain and with the mechanism of the semitrailer. The model is therefore meant for an experienced modeler who has both the time for the build and the space in a display case.
The M1013 is the American designation for a heavy tractor with drive to all eight wheels, derived from the German MAN range of off-road trucks. It served as the towing vehicle for heavy missile systems, among them the weapon package designated by the abbreviation GLCM, that is, a ground-launched cruise missile system. The M2042A1 launch semitrailer carried four transport and launch canisters with BGM-109G missiles and was able to raise them into the launch position. The combination was mobile and was meant to move away from fixed bases so that it could not easily be located. The system was deployed in Europe in the 1980s and was withdrawn in connection with the treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles.
Divide the build into three assemblies: the chassis and drivetrain of the tractor, the cab and the semitrailer. Paint each assembly separately and join them only at the end, otherwise you will not reach the lower areas. Fit the wheels after painting the fenders. A uniform matte finish or the three-color camouflage used in the 1980s is typical of the combination, and an airbrush and masking putty suit it. Keep weathering rather in check, as operational equipment of this type tended to be maintained, so light dust on the wheels and fine accentuation of the panel lines is enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
