A conversion set from the Czech brand Black Dog in 1:35, meant for a model of the American M1083 army truck. It is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory for it: it turns a standard truck into a so-called gun truck, that is an improvised armored and armed machine of the kind units put together to protect supply convoys.
The M1083 belongs to the American FMTV family of medium tactical vehicles. It is a truck with all-wheel drive, a modern cab and a flatbed body, which replaced the earlier generation of five-ton trucks in the US Army. In Iraq it turned out that supply convoys needed armed protection of their own, and so gun trucks came about: vehicles with extra armor on the bed and the cab and with a mount for a machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher. Every such vehicle was an original in its own way, and that is exactly why it is such a rewarding subject for modelers.
Improvised armor tends to be discolored and battered differently from factory panels: it therefore pays to work with the shade of the base desert color, to add light grading between panels over it and only then fine rubbing through where the crew climbed. Dust and fine earthy pigments on the wheel arches and the underside of the bed will unify the conversion with the rest of the vehicle.
It is an accessory for a model, not a model of the vehicle on its own.
