A resin set of wheels in 1:35 scale from Reskit. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory with which you replace the wheels from the plastic kit of the M142 HIMARS rocket artillery system. The wheels are in the version designated type 1 and are so-called weighted, that is cast with the tire sagging where it meets the road.
Wheels from plastic kits tend to be split into halves, so a seam is left running across the whole tread and is hard to sand. A resin casting is a single piece, keeps a regular shape and usually has a crisper tread pattern. The weighted version also solves a common shortcoming of finished models: a vehicle on four perfectly round wheels looks as if it were floating above the surface, whereas a model with sagging wheels really settles onto it and looks as though it has weight. On a sizeable rocket launcher carrier, where the running gear is very much on view, that difference is visible at first glance.
First wash the parts in warm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on them and the paint holds. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, and never break them off. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. Before gluing, check that the sagged surface will really be at the bottom once fitted, otherwise the model will settle crooked. Paint the wheels separately from the vehicle and distinguish the rim and the tire by sheen as well. Apply dust and mud with pigments working from the bottom edge upward.
It is an add-on set, not a model of the vehicle. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
