Sherman CDL turret 1:35 from PANZER ART: a resin turret with a searchlight for reworking a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin turret for reworking a model of the M4 Sherman tank into the form of a vehicle with searchlight equipment, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the tank: the turret replaces the original one and for the rework you need a base plastic model. On this vehicle the turret is the only thing that differs markedly, so one replaced part gives you an entirely different and rarely seen machine.
The vehicles designated CDL carried, instead of the usual armament, a powerful arc searchlight enclosed in an armored turret that shone through a narrow slit. The intention was twofold: to light up the battlefield for a night attack and at the same time to dazzle defenders, who would see nothing against the light. The project was run under strict secrecy; several hundred vehicles were converted, but only some of them were used in action and their real contribution remained disputed. That is exactly why it is a subject that always prompts a question at an exhibition.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that traces of mold release agent disappear. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and level the seating surfaces; sand with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. Before gluing, set the turret dry on the hull and check the diameter of the turret ring. Cast armor comes out when, after the base coat, you pick it out with a dark seeping coat and a dry brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and it is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
