The M48 Patton was an American main battle tank of the Cold War period, which in its versions served in many armies of the world. The M48A5 version was the last major combat upgrade of the M48 type in the armed forces of the USA: it was based on the M48A3 version and brought above all rearmament with the 105 mm M68 gun and a new fire control system. Thanks to that the tank kept its combat value even at a time when newer types were already coming in.
