An injection-molded plastic kit of the German tank destroyer Marder III in 1:35 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya. The model captures the Sd.Kfz.139 form, with a captured Soviet anti-tank gun mounted in an open superstructure on the chassis of the Czechoslovak Pz.38(t) tank. The box contains the parts of the hull and of the running gear, the gun with its folding front armor plate and a decal sheet.
The Marder III was an improvised but effective tank destroyer. The Germans made use of the large number of reliable chassis of the Czechoslovak Pz.38(t) tank and mounted on them a captured Soviet gun of 7.62 cm caliber, modified to the Pak 36(r) standard. The tall open superstructure gave the crew a good view and the powerful anti-tank weapon went through the armor of most tanks of the day; the drawbacks were the large silhouette and the light armor with an open top. It was used above all on the Eastern Front.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the interior of the open fighting compartment - they are clearly visible and once the hull is closed up there is no way to reach them. Glue the parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic, sand the joints and apply a primer. The gun itself and its sighting gear can be folded down according to the instructions. Bring the tracks, the fenders and the lower hull to life with washes and pigments for mud and dust effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
