Twelve corrected road wheels for the Merkava Mk.1 with mountings derived from the Centurion, 1:35 scale, with a QW template for Takom kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
When Israel lost the possibility of buying armored equipment abroad in the 1970s, it set about designing its own. The result contradicted a number of conventions: the engine traveled forward to protect the crew, the ammunition went into fire-resistant containers on the floor of the hull, and at the rear there came into being a hatch through which a few soldiers could be loaded or the wounded carried out. The first series reached the units at the close of the 1970s and experienced its baptism of fire in Lebanon, where it became clear that the emphasis on the survival of the crew had not been in vain. The running gear the designers borrowed from where it had proved itself, so the early Merkavas ran on wheels derived from the British subject.
The set carries twelve wheels for both sides of the chassis and a QW masking template. The mounting is worked out for Takom kits in 1:35.
The Merkava has its sides covered only partly and on models the upper run of the track tends to sag, so attention automatically turns to the wheels. Fit them dry, check the plane and only then fix them, otherwise a sagging track will be noticed at first glance. The template deals with the tire, which on Israeli machines is best left dusty rather than black.
It suits builders who want to build the early version with an open running gear, and everyone to whom the shape of the production wheels does not fit the period photographs. It also makes sense to reach for it when you are preparing a pair of vehicles side by side and want the running gear on both to be of the same quality.
