An injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli main battle tank Merkava Mk.1 Hybrid from Takom in 1:35 scale. The model is marked by fine surface detail, combined tracks (individual links as well as longer runs), photo-etched parts, clear parts and the option of building the hatches open or closed. There are usually two marking options in the box — check the exact contents against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The Merkava is an Israeli main battle tank with an unconventional layout: the engine is placed at the front, which increases the protection of the crew, and at the rear there is a rear entrance for mounting as well as evacuation. The designation Mk.1 Hybrid belongs to a transitional (mixed) version — these are older Mk.1 vehicles that received selected elements of the newer Mk.2 during overhauls, for example smoke grenade launchers, add-on armor and a modernized fire control system. It is therefore an intermediate step between the original Mk.1 and the full Mk.2.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the tracks before you close up the side plates and the fenders. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic, treat the surface with a primer and apply the shades with an airbrush — for the characteristic Israeli sand shade (Sinai Grey) an airbrush and subsequent shading work well. The busy surface is rewarding to weather: dark washes bring out the details and pigments create the dust and mud effects typical of a desert environment.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
