Injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10 fighter in 1:35 scale from Border Model. The box contains a complete engine, gun bays and a finely detailed interior, as well as photo-etched parts, clear parts for the engine cowling, the canopy and the machine gun inspection doors, WGr.21 rocket launchers and decals for three marking options. Opened engine covers are the point of this kit: there is something to show.
Aircraft are made in 1:32, 1:48 or 1:72; 1:35 belongs to tanks, artillery and figures. Border Model, however, issues aircraft in 1:35 on purpose, and that is the whole point. It means that the Bf 109 can be matched in size to the ground vehicles and figures you already build: mechanics at an exposed engine, a tractor, fuel drums, a shot-up scene at a field airfield. Modelers of ground vehicles thus get an aircraft that at last fits their diorama.
The Bf 109 G-10 is a late version of the famous Gustav and a transitional link to the final K series. Compared with the ordinary G-6 it differs above all in the more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 D engine with MW 50 mixture injection, which gave the aircraft markedly better performance at altitude. The new engine brought external changes too: a modified engine cowling with differently shaped bulges and a deeper oil cooler fairing, the Erla Haube canopy, an all-round glazed cover with a much better view that replaced the old framed canopy with its fixed rear section, and a taller fin. The result was the most capable production Gustav, used in the last year of the war.
Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene. Photo-etched parts are not glued with polystyrene cement; use cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy, bend the photo-etch on a bending tool rather than with your fingers and degrease it before painting. Paint the engine and the gun bays, shade them with a wash and bring out the edges with dry-brushing before you close the fuselage, because you will not reach them afterwards. Mask the clear parts, lay down a base of primer, spray the camouflage with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss coat and seal them with a matte one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
