The accessory covers one particular item of external equipment on the StuG III assault gun in the Ausf. G version: a metal stowage box together with the bracket it was fixed to the hull with. The configuration matches the vehicles of the LSSAH unit, as the name states, and it is marked as type 1. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a single detail intended to be fitted to a model already built. The material of the parts and their number are stated on the box.
External stowage is among the features that differed most on one and the same type of vehicle. Crews had boxes made in field workshops, every workshop made them a little differently, and the mounting too was dealt with according to what was at hand. That is why ELEFANT keeps several variants for the same vehicle: wooden and metal, in type 1 and type 2 configurations. The difference between them lies in the shape of the box and in the form of the bracket, and it is exactly this detail that tends to be the clue a vehicle is recognized by in a period photograph. For a model it means being able to hit a particular machine, not merely the general version from the box.
First wash the castings in water with detergent, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp knife, never snap them off, and sand the surface back wet with protection for your breathing. Glue with super glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Try the box and the bracket on the model dry first and work out whether it is easier to fit them before painting or to paint them separately and glue them on at the end; with features that sit close against the hull, the second road usually earns its place. Let the metal age with worn edges and light rust, but keep a sense of proportion, so that the feature does not look different from the rest of the vehicle.
