An add-on set from Voyager Model that replaces the wheels of the base kit. It is not a kit of the vehicle and not a finished model but replacement parts for a modeler who already owns the matching kit. A spare wheel is included too, that is a part that comes into its own on the roof or the rear of the vehicle as a visible detail.
The HMMWV, known among modelers and users alike by the nickname Humvee, is an American light cross-country vehicle with all-wheel drive, which serves in many configurations from cargo and signals versions to an armored fit. It is the wheels that tend to be the most noticeable recognition feature of these vehicles, because several types of rims and tires alternated over the course of service, and cross-country fits also show markedly coarser treads than the standard vehicles carry.
With wheels it is above all the geometry that decides the result. Before you glue anything permanently, stand the model on a flat plate and check that all the wheels touch down and that the vehicle does not limp. Fit the hubs dry first and make sure they sit on the chassis stubs, and shorten a stub carefully if need be. Remove the parting seams around the circumference of a tire by drawing a blunt scalpel along them or with fine abrasive paper, and then knock the surface back a little, so that the rubber does not come across as plastic. Painting is rewarding: a dark gray base instead of pure black, a dry brush in a lighter shade on the edges of the tread and dust at the end in the color of the ground you are setting the vehicle into. If you spray the wheels separately, you save yourself masking and paint the rims accurately.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
