An add-on set from Voyager Model holding sixteen turned smoke grenade launchers in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit: these are replacement metal parts, which are glued to the turret of a model in place of the plastic moldings. The configuration is universal, and use across models of modern Russian and Soviet armored vehicles is reckoned with.
Smoke grenade launchers are mounted on armored vehicles in blocks on the sides of the turret. A fired charge creates a screen within a few seconds that hides the vehicle from optical and from part of optoelectronic observation and makes it possible to move or change position. On Soviet and Russian vehicles these blocks form a characteristic feature of the turret silhouette. An individual discharger is a short tube with an open muzzle, and it is precisely the open muzzle that counts most on a model.
The advantage of turned metal is obvious at first glance: the muzzle is genuinely drilled and the wall of the tube is thin, whereas a plastic molding has a muzzle that is either solid or coarsely suggested. Plastic can be drilled, but the result tends to be off center. So replace the plastic with the metal part entirely: cut the rest of the plastic block away and level the surface with a file. Glue the dischargers to the turret one at a time, with cyanoacrylate applied with a needle, and keep checking that they all point in the same direction and have the same inclination; a mismatched angle is immediately visible on a row of tubes. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base. A dark shade suits the muzzle, so that the opening gains depth optically, and a fine hint of soot around the muzzle suits a vehicle that is meant to look used.
The set is unassembled and unpainted. The model of the vehicle, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
