A plastic kit of the MPQ-53 C-Band Tracking Radar in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter - the guidance radar of the American Patriot air defense system.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic model of the AN/MPQ-53 radar in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is a towed radar set on a flatbed trailer, which forms the heart of the American MIM-104 Patriot air and missile defense system. The kit contains photo-etched parts and rubber tires; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The AN/MPQ-53 is a phased array radar working in the C band, which in the MIM-104 Patriot system handles search, target tracking and missile guidance. The antenna panel with thousands of elements can track a large number of targets at once; the set is transported on a trailer and deployed into its combat position. The radar became famous during the Gulf War in the defense against ballistic missiles and is to this day the basis of many air defense batteries.
The large antenna panel and the cabin are in plain view - fill the joints carefully and sand the mold seams. Spray the base over a primer; an airbrush and thinned paints suit the large surfaces. Modern American equipment tends to be in a uniform flat shade; realism comes from a fine panel wash and restrained dust effects. Glue the rubber tires on only after the chassis has been sprayed.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
