Photo-etched parts for a model of the Japanese Nakajima B5N2 Type 97 Kate carrier aircraft in 1:35 scale. The metal details are thinner than injection-molded plastic allows.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Nakajima B5N2, known to the Allies under the code name Kate, was a Japanese carrier attack aircraft. It carried a crew of three, it was powered by the Nakajima Sakae radial engine and its wings folded so that it would fit into the hangar of an aircraft carrier. It could carry a torpedo or bombs slung underneath, and it was precisely in the torpedo role that it left its mark on the first months of the war in the Pacific. For its day it was a modern all-metal monoplane with retractable landing gear which left the older biplanes far behind.
Photo-etched parts for refining the detail of a model in 1:35 scale. Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet in which the parts are etched out to their outline and held in the fret only by narrow tabs. The thickness of the sheet runs in tenths of a millimeter, so things can be made from it for which injection-molded plastic is too coarse. The list of parts and their placement is given by the maker's instructions.
Cut the part out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never break it out by twisting, because it will bend where it should not. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends in a bender or between two blades and carry them out in one movement; metal bent twice back and forth cracks at the bend. Degrease the parts before painting and coat them with a primer, as paint takes badly to bare metal.
For modelers who want to take a B5N2 model above the level of a straight-from-the-box build and who do not mind working with tweezers. The kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
