An SX-Art paint mask for the 1:35 model of the Object 640 Black Eagle tank. It covers the areas that are to stay in the original shade while the camouflage is sprayed.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from SX-Art makes it easier to apply a broken-up color pattern to a model in 1:35 scale. The particular kit the mask is cut for is given in the name of the item, so you can check the match before you buy. Tracing the boundaries of the pattern by brush is several evenings' work on a tank this large; with ready-made templates it is done in an afternoon.
The Object 640 was created at the Omsk design bureau in the second half of the 1990s as a demonstrator of a new generation of Russian main battle tank. It differed from the production machines in a lengthened tracked suspension with seven road wheels and a flat turret with separate ammunition stowage in its rear. It got no further than a few demonstration vehicles and the machine was never taken into service, and that is exactly why it is among the rewarding subjects for collectors of prototypes.
Let the base shade dry thoroughly and only then lay the mask on. Spray the paint perpendicular to the surface and rather in two passes; a thin coat does not creep under the edge as easily as a heavy one. Remove it before the paint has fully hardened and help yourself with tweezers and a shallow pull. Transitions that do not come out right can be evened up by brush. Before you start, run a finger over the whole surface: every speck under the template will print through into the edge.
It is a modeling aid for painting; the tank itself is not included.
