1:35 Paint Masks For Beutepanzer Markings WW I Male/Female Mk.IV is a small insignia stencil set for spraying the recognition markings of captured tanks from the period of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not about camouflage, but about markings. The stencils draw the large recognition crosses, names and numbers that crews applied to the sides and the front of the hull. In size it is a smaller item than the camouflage sets, and it is also worked with differently: the elements are laid down individually, not in a continuous band.
A captured machine had exactly the same silhouette as the one it was going into action against. For the infantry and the artillery, in fog and smoke that was an insoluble problem, and so crosses were painted on the hull in an unusually large format, easily across the whole height of the side. To these were added the individual names of the machines, which the crews chose themselves, and sequence numbers. The marking was therefore not a decorative flourish but a means of survival, and its size comes across on a model as exaggerated at first glance, even though it matches reality.
The individual markings are set down with tweezers, and mark the centerline in advance so that a cross does not sit askew. Apply the paint thinly and at right angles; with the thin lines of lettering two misted passes are enough. Take the stencil off at once, so that it does not dry over the edge. On a roughly painted hull it pays to go over the edges of the element beforehand with the shade of the base, which seals them and keeps the paint from creeping under.
The contents of the package are stencils for markings.
