The set from CMK replaces and completes the armament of the French armored car Panhard 178, also known as the AMD-35, and adds ammunition to it. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a set of cast parts for a model you build separately in 1:35. The dimensions and the shapes are based on the ICM, Revell and Tamiya kits.
The Panhard 178 carried a 25 mm gun with a coaxial machine gun in its two-man turret. It is the barrel of the gun and its slender shape that give the turret its characteristic look and are among the first things you notice on a finished model. The ammunition was carried in racks in the turret, and individual rounds are often shown laid out in diorama scenes, when the vehicle is depicted while being replenished or with its hatches open.
Injection-molded armament is always a compromise. The barrel is split and thin-walled parts, such as the shield or the brackets, have to be needlessly thick because of the mold. A cast accessory makes it possible to produce thin edges, fine detail of the breech and small ammunition in shapes that injection molding cannot manage. The set therefore makes sense above all when you want to leave the turret open or build the model as part of a scene where the inside can be seen too.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting remains off with a scalpel or a fine saw and true the surfaces up. Sanding is best done wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; pick the small parts up with a toothpick. Paint the ammunition separately from the vehicle before you fit it, because the brass or lacquered surface of the cases is done with a different technique from the matte color of the hull. A dark wash in the recesses and a fine emphasis of the edges help at the end.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
