SX-Art mask set 1:35 Panhard VBL

Self-adhesive masks for painting the wheels of a model of the French light armored vehicle Panhard VBL in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a set of parts, but an accessory for painting: the mask separates the tire from the wheel rim, so the edge can be sprayed with an airbrush and does not have to be laboriously run around with a brush.

Why the wheels in particular

The VBL is a small vehicle with four large wheels that make up a substantial part of its silhouette. The transition between the black tire and the rim in the color of the vehicle is therefore conspicuous on a model and a shaky line gives it away at once. A mask keeps the edge straight all the way around and all the wheels look the same.

The real subject

The Panhard VBL is a French light armored vehicle with drive to all wheels, intended for reconnaissance, liaison and escort tasks. It was exported to a number of countries and it still appears in many armies today in various fit-outs. An armored body with a large ground clearance and robust wheels are among its recognition marks.

Recommended procedure

First spray the wheel with the color of the rubber and let it dry. Then lay the mask on the tire, press it down around the edge with a soft wooden stick and apply the shade of the vehicle over it, that is the color of the rim. Spray straight on and in several thin coats. Take the mask off with tweezers shortly after it is dry to the touch. Paint the wheels separately, off the model, because you can reach them from every side.
