1:35 Panther Type G

Panther Ausf.G, late version (1:35, Tamiya)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Pz.Kpfw.V Panther in the Ausf.G version, in 1:35 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya. It is a proven model from an earlier era of the brand - the parts are clearly broken down and the build is undemanding, so it suits modelers who are only starting with military vehicles. The running gear carries rubber (vinyl) one-piece tracks, which are slipped on whole without gluing individual links. Waterslide decals for several marking options are included.

The real subject

From its first use in the middle of 1943 the Panther was one of the mainstays of the German armored force until the end of the war. It was armed with the long 75 mm KwK 42 L/70 weapon with high penetrating power and it had sloped frontal armor, which combined decent protection with mobility. The Ausf.G variant was the most widespread production version, reached the units from 1944 and brought a simplified hull that was easier to build.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the running gear, the wheels and the lower hull before you close the hull up - later they are hard to get at. Glue the plastic with a liquid modeling cement and let the joints dry properly. Apply a primer before painting and spray the covering coat ideally with an airbrush. The base yellow (Dunkelgelb) with brown and green camouflage stripes is typical of this era. Weathering comes from a dark wash in the recesses and from dust or mud pigments on the running gear and the lower areas.
