An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Panzer IV medium tank in the Ausf. H version in 1:35 scale from Academy. The set also contains the side armor skirts with which vehicles of this version were protected against antitank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. It is the skirts in particular that give the tank its unmistakable angular silhouette, by which the Ausf. H is recognized at a glance.
The Panzer IV was the only German tank produced throughout the war, and the Ausf. H version was its most numerous form. It carried the long 75 mm gun, which could by then deal with Soviet medium tanks, thicker frontal armor and simplified features to speed up production. The side skirts on the hull and around the turret were a response to the threat that antitank rifles and charges at short range posed to the armor.
Finish and paint the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close the upper part. On plastic use a thin cement applied into the seam with a brush. Fit the skirts only once the hull is painted, or you will not be able to get behind them. An airbrush with soft transitions suits the German three-color camouflage, and the weathering is then built up in layers from a wash through a dry brush to dust pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
