An injection-molded plastic kit of a German tank destroyer in 1:35 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya. The real subject is the version designated by the letter A, that is the form with the taller, less sloped superstructure, which differs from the better-known low-silhouette variant at first glance. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Panzer IV/70 came about by combining the proven chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank with a fixed casemate superstructure and a long 75 mm anti-tank gun with a barrel 70 calibers long. It is precisely the number 70 in the designation that refers to the length of the barrel and not to a year. The letter A in brackets distinguishes the form from one of the manufacturers, in which the superstructure was built on a practically unchanged hull, so the vehicle gained a taller profile and a differently arranged front. The long and heavy barrel loaded the front of the running gear, which on the real vehicle showed up as increased wear on the forward road wheels. For the modeler it is a rewarding subject: a low compact silhouette, clearly legible welds and plenty of room for weathering and additional equipment.
Finish the running gear and the details of the hull before you close the hull with the superstructure. Check the barrel beforehand and carefully sand any seam from the two halves, since on so long a part every unevenness shows. Apply the base coat with an airbrush, then choose either a single-color or a mottled finish according to the scheme you have picked. Pick out the engraving and the welds with a dark wash, and handle the metal wear on the edges with graphite or a restrained drybrush. On the lower areas and the running gear use dust and mud pigments, applied in thin layers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
