A plastic model of the Chinese heavy multiple rocket launcher from the manufacturer Trumpeter. In 1:35 scale it makes an impressive piece of modern equipment: a bank of twelve 300 mm launch tubes mounted on a massive eight-wheeled chassis.
The PHL-03 is a heavy multiple rocket launcher of the Chinese army, derived in concept from the Russian BM-30 Smerch system. Twelve 300 mm rockets can cover area targets at a range of tens of kilometers, and thanks to its 8x8 chassis the whole set is capable of rapid moves off made-up roads as well. The system was introduced after 2000 and is one of the pillars of Chinese rocket artillery; typical of it is the contrast of the large crew cab at the front and the elevating block of launcher tubes at the rear.
Start with the frame and the axles, because on wheeled equipment it pays to assemble the running gear on a flat surface so that all eight wheels really touch down. Glue the launch tubes one at a time and keep checking that they are parallel, as small deviations show at once on a finished model. The single-color military green comes to life with light lightening of the centers of the panels, dust pigments on the wheel arches and restrained washes around the hatches and the grab handles.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
