The kit depicts the Chinese ZTZ99A main battle tank in service with the People's Liberation Army, in 1:35 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Border Model is a newer brand that has made a name for itself with elaborate molds and richly divided castings, so this is a kit for a modeler who wants to put work into the build.
The ZTZ99A is the most advanced version of the Chinese line of third generation main battle tanks. It carries a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, thanks to which the crew is reduced to three. Its most conspicuous feature is the turret with wedge-shaped frontal armor modules, which continue along the sides as well and give the machine a sharp, angular look. On the roof of the turret there are elements of the active protection system against guided missiles, and on the sides smoke grenade launchers. The running gear with five road wheels on each side carries large diameter wheels and heavy side skirts.
Finish the running gear and any interior of the hull before you close the hull up, as once it is glued you will not reach them. Leave the tracks and the wheels separate and fit them only after the base color has been sprayed; you will make the painting markedly easier. The broken-up turret with its wedge modules calls for a thorough primer, as sharp edges otherwise hold paint badly. For the Chinese three-tone camouflage it pays to use masking putty or a snake of modeling putty, so that the transitions are not oversprayed. Build the weathering from the bottom up: first dust shades on the running gear and the side skirts, then fine chipping on the edges and finally the rivets and gaps brought out with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
