A resin add-on set in 1:35 scale from ELEFANT. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a detail of its own: a rack for jerrycans of the kind that appeared on Panzer III Ausf. L tanks with the 2nd SS Panzergrenadier Division Das Reich. Field modifications like these are rewarding on models of German vehicles, because they turn an ordinary kit into a particular vehicle of a particular unit.
The Panzer III Ausf. L was one of the later combat versions of the German Panzer III medium tank, armed with a long 5 cm barrel and fitted with add-on armor on the front. It was used mainly in 1942 and 1943. Crews commonly fitted their own stowage to the vehicles - jerrycan racks, boxes or frames for equipment - because the supply of fuel and water decided both the range and the comfort of the crew. The arrangement differed from unit to unit, so the particular shape of a rack is one of the recognition marks of a given formation.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, dress the area with a file and do the sanding wet or with a respirator. It is glued with super glue, cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Try the position on the hull dry first and check it against photographs of the vehicle you are building. Deal with the painting separately: the rack and the jerrycans are usually painted on their own and glued to the model only after the base coat and any weathering, as it is otherwise hard to reach the recesses with a brush.
The set is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
