A resin replacement turret in 1:35 scale for models of the German Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank in the Ausf. H and Ausf. J production versions. The turret is cast including the camouflage net of jute tape wound around the grab handles and the edges, that is including a feature that is practically impossible to make in plastic. It is an exchange part for a kit already built, and the vehicle itself is not included.
The Ausf. H and J versions represent the late production form of the Pz.Kpfw. IV with the characteristic straight front wall of the turret and with brackets for add-on armor. Camouflaging with jute tape was a practical way to break up the outline of the turret and reduce reflections. For a modeler it is above all an interesting surface task: coarse cloth contrasts with smooth sheet metal and opens room for shading in color. The resin casting renders the winding of the tape with its sag and the overhang of loose ends in one piece, so the laborious imitation with bandage or filler is avoided.
Wash the turret in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface down wet with your airways protected. Check whether the turret pin seats into the hull of the chosen kit, and modify or build it up if needed. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, separate the cloth from the metal: spray the base of the vehicle with an airbrush, then shift the cloth to a different shade, put a wash into the hollows and pick the edges of the winding out with a dry brush. Dust and fine pigments hold on coarse fabric more than on paint, which is a rewarding effect you need not be afraid to use.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
