This item is not a model of a vehicle but a set of replacement wheels in resin. It replaces the wheels supplied in the kit and deals with two things that tend to be the weak point of plastic parts: a shallow and blurred tread pattern and a visible parting line down the middle of the tire. The resin casting is monolithic, so once the casting block is removed, the laborious cleaning up of a seam right round the circumference is avoided. The designation in the name refers to the tire maker whose tread pattern the set reproduces.
The GAZ-67 was a Soviet light off-road car of the Second World War, a simple four-wheeled vehicle with an open body. The BA-64 armored car came from the same mechanical basis, thanks to which both vehicles shared the same type of wheel. That is exactly why one set can be used for both subjects. Soviet vehicles of the period had several tire suppliers with different tread patterns, so the choice of a particular pattern is a legitimate distinguishing feature of a model, not a cosmetic detail.
Wash the wheels in warm water with dish soap and cut the casting block off at the mating surface, where the cut will not show once sanded. Resin is glued with super glue. Before fitting, check that the hub sits on the axle pin, and widen the opening carefully with a drill if needed. Do not paint the tire pure black, as a dark gray shade looks more realistic on a model to scale. The tread pattern comes out after a light dry brush in a lighter tone and after dusting with pigment, leaving more dust on the sidewall of the tire than in the grooves, where it would not get in service. Paint the rim according to the overall scheme of the vehicle, usually in the same shade as the body.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as resin castings. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
