An accessory set of an antenna base of the AS1729 type for the South Korean K131 light utility vehicle. The manufacturer lists it as a double package, that is it holds twice what the single variant of the same set does — useful when you are building two vehicles or when you want one piece in reserve. The antenna is a classic place where a model loses out with the plastic part from the box. An injection-molded antenna is always thicker than it ought to be, it bends and it carries a parting line along its whole length; a turned or accurately cast part is slim, straight and holds its shape.
The AS1729 is a vehicle antenna base for radio sets working in the very high frequency band. It consists of a flexible foot, which protects the antenna from damage when driving across country and when catching on an obstacle, and a whip, which is fitted from above. On vehicles it is mounted on the rear part of the body or on a fender and tends to be one of the most conspicuous elements of the silhouette, because it projects beyond the outline of the vehicle. A base of this type is widespread on modern army equipment across vehicle types, so it leaves a marked mark on how a model looks.
Sets of this kind tend to be turned from metal, or they combine a metal whip with a cast foot. With metal parts, degrease the surface before gluing and roughen it slightly, so that the glue and the paint take hold; they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. If the set holds resin parts, wash them in lukewarm water with detergent to remove the release agent from the mold, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the remainder down wet with protection for your breathing. Before painting, lay on a primer suitable for a smooth surface, otherwise the paint will rub off. On a thin whip, matte black or dark green sprayed in a thin layer proves itself — a thick layer would take away the slimness the set is bought for.
It is an accessory set, not a complete model. The basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
