An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet T-54B medium tank in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the later night-fighting version of the T-54 series with infrared searchlights. The package offers parts for the turret searchlight as well as the commander's searchlight, and in some cases two barrel variants. Separate wheel arms let the running gear be seated into uneven ground in a diorama.
The T-54 was a Soviet medium tank of the postwar generation that became one of the most widespread tanks in the world. The T-54B version brought night-fighting equipment, a two-axis stabilizer and a reworked 100 mm gun. Characteristic are the low hemispherical turret, the long barrel with a fume extractor and the infrared searchlights on the turret as well as the commander's cupola. The real subject stood out for its low silhouette and its simple, robust construction.
Start with the running gear and the lower hull, as the separate wheel arms make seating into the ground easier. Use thin cement for plastic, apply a primer before finishing and lay the paints on with an airbrush. On a uniform green color, emphasizing the panels and the shades and then dark washes into the recesses have proved themselves. Dust and mud pigments on the running gear will give the model realistic weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
