Wheels of the early version with a spare for the Sd.Kfz 222 armored scout car, tread pattern type 3, Tamiya model. 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The rubber of a real vehicle flattens under its weight, and that holds even for a light armored car such as the four-wheeled scout with a 2 cm gun in the turret. Parts from ordinary sprues are perfectly round instead, because the mold allows nothing else. The finished model then meets the base at a single point and even a superbly built display case looks as though the vehicle were floating. Castings with simulated load take that impression away in one step and it does not cost a minute of extra work.
Position is what matters: the flattened face has to point straight down. Seat the wheels on their stubs dry, stand the car on glass and turn each wheel until the face beds down across its full width; only then fix the joint with a drop of thin glue led into the gap. Anyone who rushes this step ends up with a vehicle whose wheels are turned to the sides, which looks worse than perfectly round parts from the kit. On the spare the rotation does not matter at all, since it was carried slung and never touched the ground.
The set holds a full run of wheels and a spare, in the tread pattern marked as the third type. Painting is rewarding: a base in a dark gray-green shade, after drying a light pass with a dry brush in a lighter tone along the edges of the pattern, and finally dust settled where the wind leaves it, which is around the rim and above all in the grooves, where it lasts longest and where not even rain takes it away. The model of the vehicle from Tamiya is obtained separately.
