A run of wheels with mismatched tire patterns for the late version of the Sd.Kfz 222, with a spare added. The tires are cast in the weighted state and the size matches the Hobby Boss kit, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The standard heavy off-road chassis the Sd.Kfz 222 stood on carried every wheel on its own swing half-axle. The wheels therefore did not stand exactly upright and on broken ground they splayed to the sides. For a modeler that brings welcome news: a slight turn of the individual wheels is not a mistake but precisely what period photographs show.
The package carries tires with differing patterns. A car in such a run looks well used, because a replacement tire came at a field workshop from whatever happened to be at hand. Nobody will read that difference as carelessness on the builder's part, rather as evidence that the machine put in some miles. Anyone who instead wants a car fresh from the factory will reach for the numbers with a single design, which the brand lists separately.
A thin-walled casting sometimes warps in a sealed bag and in the warmth. Before you condemn such a part, dip it for a moment in hot water, straighten it carefully and let it settle in cold. The shape returns to a circle that way and the tire beds down across its full width again. The footprint on the underside can be turned elsewhere than the caster intended by the same method.
A separate number covers the box from Tamiya, so it is worth comparing which of the two kits you are preparing at home. The seating of the hub differs between the two versions and a mix-up shows at the very first fit.
