The set adds external equipment to a finished model of the German Sd.Kfz. 234/1 armored car. The vehicle itself is not in the package and is obtained separately. It is on reconnaissance cars that such equipment makes the most sense, because the crews operated detached from supply and carried everything they needed with them on the body.
The Sd.Kfz. 234/1 belonged to the family of heavy eight-wheeled reconnaissance cars introduced in 1944. The vehicle had a load-bearing monocoque body, steering on all axles and a second driver's station at the rear, so it could reverse as fast as it drove forward. Power came from an air-cooled diesel engine, which took swings in temperature better than the liquid-cooled units of the day. The 234/1 version carried an automatic cannon of smaller caliber in an open-topped turret.
First finish the wheels, the fenders and the body including the primer coat; only then comes the loaded equipment. With an open-topped turret it pays to reckon with the inside being visible, so the inner surfaces deserve a shade of their own and fine shading. The stowed items then only need unifying with a light touch of dust. Leave the wheels for last: once they are fitted the model is harder to hold and fingerprints on fresh paint become unavoidable.
