Wheels for the front axle of the Sd.Kfz. 251 and Sd.Kfz. 11 with a more rarely seen tread design, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Alongside the widespread pattern that recurs in most surviving photographs, Continental also made a second off-road tread with a different division of the blocks. At the front it appeared considerably more rarely, and that is just what makes it more attractive to modelers: it gives the vehicle an appearance that nobody else will readily repeat on the display table.
The front axle of the Sd.Kfz. 251 armored personnel carrier and of the three-ton Sd.Kfz. 11 tractor was shared, so the set serves both subjects. The carrier took infantry into battle alongside tanks, the tractor towed light field howitzers and anti-aircraft equipment, and on both machines the front wheel was unpowered, steerable and easily seen close up.
Before you reach for the glue, compare the wheel with a drawing or a photograph of the particular vehicle; some units left one make at the front and another on the spare. Painting goes from a dark base to a lighter dry brush along the edges, because it is the edges that give an impression of depth on a small area. Consider also whether you want to turn the wheel; a turned front axle breaks the static stance of the model and the scene comes alive at once.
Tread patterns differ only subtly between individual suppliers and merge when viewed from a distance. If you are building from a particular photograph, look at it enlarged and compare the width of the groove against the width of the block; only this ratio decides which tread really was on the vehicle.
