This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Panzerkampfwagen IV in the Ausf.F2/G version (designation Sd.Kfz.161/1) in 1:35 scale from Rye Field Model. The kit contains workable individual track links, photo-etched parts and a 3D-printed muzzle brake; detail of the engine bay is there as well. The hatches can be built open or closed.
The Panzer IV was the most widespread German medium tank of the Second World War. The F2 and G versions meant a fundamental rearming with the longer 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun, which gave the tank back its fighting value against well armored opponents. The machine served on every front and became the mainstay of the German armored units; the G version saw a series of partial changes, from the side skirts (Schürzen) to alterations of the running gear and the turret hatches.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the interior of the engine bay before you close the hull, while the parts are easy to reach. Clean the workable track links of their gates, put them together one by one and let them sag naturally over the road wheels and the idler before painting. Glue the plastic with thin cement and the fine photo-etched parts with super glue; spray the kit over a primer. Lighten the base color on the upper surfaces, then create the patina with washes in the recesses and with pigments and mud effects on the running gear. Paint the muzzle brake and the barrel separately for a clean transition between metal and finish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
