An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet self-propelled gun SU-101 in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The real vehicle remained at the prototype stage, which makes the model an interesting rarity for collectors of less common equipment. The set offers a well detailed running gear, a detailed hull with a fighting compartment closed off at the rear and a main gun with a long barrel.
The SU-101 was a Soviet self-propelled gun developed at the very close of the Second World War. It was created on a chassis derived from the new T-44 medium tank and carried a powerful 100mm gun. Its characteristic feature was the layout of the fighting compartment at the rear, above the back of the hull. Prototypes were built in 1945, but the end of the war and technical problems led to the cancellation of the project, which never reached series production. A surviving prototype is displayed in a museum of armored vehicles.
First assemble and paint the running gear before you close it up with the upper hull parts. Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and line the gun barrel up along the axis. Apply a primer and a uniform Soviet green with an airbrush. Bring out the panel joints and the rivets with a wash and apply pigments to the running gear for mud and dust effects. As this is a prototype, choose restrained markings.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
