1:35 Soviet Zil-131V tow 2T3M1 Trailer with 8K14 Missil

The real subject

The combination served with Soviet missile units to carry the tactical ballistic missile 8K14, which is known in the West under the designation Scud-B. The ZIL-131V tractor grows out of the ZIL-131 truck with all-wheel drive, built for driving off the road, and in this arrangement it is adapted for towing a trailer. The 2T3M1 transport trailer carried the missile lying flat. Launching was done from a separate vehicle, so this assembly represents the transport and not the firing part of a unit.

What the set contains

It is a plastic kit in 1:35 scale which covers three assemblies: the ZIL-131V tractor, the 2T3M1 transport trailer and the 8K14 missile itself. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The exact number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the range of marking variants are given in the instructions enclosed by the maker.

Building and painting tips

Build the individual assemblies separately and join them only after painting, or you will not reach the underside of the trailer or the frame under the missile. Clear the excess material and the traces of production off the parts and try the joints dry; on the long trailer make sure that it stands level on all its wheels. Soviet hardware of this category tends to be in a uniform dark green finish, on which dust on the fenders, wear on the steps and a scuffed strip where crews climbed up come out well. The missile, by contrast, is kept clean and light; the contrast between it and the dusty chassis makes up a large part of the final effect.
