The 1:35 Spähpanzer Ru 251 kit from Amusing Hobby — a West German light reconnaissance tank of the Cold War in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the West German Spähpanzer Ru 251 light reconnaissance tank in 1:35 scale. It is a subject that will certainly not blend in with the rest of the display case: a low, angular tracked machine with a long barrel, one of those designs that are rarely met among ordinary kits.
The Spähpanzer Ru 251 was created in the Federal Republic of Germany at the beginning of the 1960s as a sought-after replacement for reconnaissance machines nearing the end of their service. In design terms it followed on from the German tank destroyer of the day with a tracked chassis, but it received a rotating turret with a 90 mm gun. The aim was a combination of a low silhouette, high mobility and firepower that would let a reconnaissance unit fight its way out if it had to. In the end the machine never entered series production — it remained at the prototype and trials stage, and that is exactly why it is a rewarding subject today for modelers looking for something different from the usual tanks.
Finish the running gear and the inner walls of the hull before you close the hull up — once it is glued you will not reach them. Fit the tracks only after the chassis has been painted. German Cold War hardware is painted either in a uniform olive shade or in the later three-color pattern; both can be done with an airbrush with a soft transition. A dry brush on the edges brings out the shape of the turret, a dark wash livens up the engraved lines, and fine dust on the lower hull and on the tracks gives the model the look of a machine that really did move across country.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
